Laurence S. Hanson, the son of John [O.] and Martha (Larson) Hanson, was born June 4, 1906, in Superior, Iowa and departed this life on Monday, May 30, 1994, at the Rosewood Manor Nursing Home in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 26 days.

He was baptized at the Estherville Lutheran Church. He received his education in rural country schools.

On April 2, 1939, he was united in marriage to Eldora Hanson in Estherville. Laurence farmed all of his life in Center Township in rural Estherville.

He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Gruver, where he served as a deacon, trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of the Gruver School Board and was on the fund-raising board for the Good Samaritan Care Center in Estherville.

Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife, Eldora of rural Estherville; three sons, and two daughters, Richard Hanson and his wife, Karen of rural Estherville; Marilyn Holtey and her husband, Roger of Fairmont, Minnesota; Kenneth Hanson and his wife, Judy of rural Estherville; Marcia Cherland and her husband, Ronald of Fairmont; L. Steven Hanson and his wife, Karen of rural Estherville; thirteen grandchildren, Laura (Holtey) Pettis and her husband, Geoff; Ted Hanson and his wife, Heather; Heidi Hanson; Marc Holtey; Kirsten Cherland; Kari Hanson; Cory Hanson; Tony Hanson; Eric Cherland; Nicolas Hanson; Monica Hanson; Jeremy Hanson and Elizabeth Hanson; one great grandson, Joshua Hanson; two sisters, Genevieve Richey of Manly, Iowa; and Leora Anderson and her husband, Edward of Estherville; five sisters-in-law, Eva Hanson of Estherville; Lois Hanson of Estherville; Marion Duncan and her husband, Wayne of Ceylon, Minnesota; Myrna Hanson of Rush City, Minnesota; Lorraine Carlson and her husband, Ray of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two brothers-in-law, Virgil Hanson and his wife, Vada of Rush City; and Donald Hanson and his wife, Diane of Duluth, Minnesota. He has been preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.

Interment: Swan Lake Cemetery, Gruver, Iowa
