Funeral Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. Tom Sunde of Huntington will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Sunde farm home and at 2 p.m. from the Palestine church. Burial will be in the Palestine cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 1, 1944)

Mrs. Tom Sunde, 75, Huntington, Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Tom Sunde, 75, of Huntington, died at her farm home Monday noon following a heart ailment of several months. During the time of her illness Mrs. Sunde has been confined to her bed. First reports were that it was Mr. Sunde who had died.

Gertrude Mathison was born in Norway Jan. 10, 1869, and came to the United States when a young child. She is a member of the Palestine Lutheran church.

Mrs. Sunde is survived by her husband and three children, Sadie, Hazel and Alvin.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sunde will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Sunde farm home and at 2 p.m. at the Palestine church. Burial will be in the Palestine cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 2, 1944)

Mrs. Thomas Sunde
Funeral services were held Nov. 3 for Mrs. Thomas Sunde of Huntington who died Oct. 30. A brief funeral service was held at the Sunde home. The pastor read two Psalms and sang several hyms. Regular funeral services were held at the Palestine church. Arthur Valen sang “Flee as a Bird to the Mountain,” “Nearer My God to Thee” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Mrs. Gust Valen accompanied him at the piano.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Sunde, Oscar Sunde, Carl Sunde, Henry Sunde, Oscar Mathre and Floyd Danielson. Interment was made in the Palestine Lutheran cemetery.

Gertrude Mathison, daughter of Sara and Knute Mathison, was born Jan. 10, 1869, in Fjelberg, Norway. When she was a year and a half old the family came to the United States and settled in Grundy county, Ill. She attended the public school in Gardner, Ill., and was baptized and confirmed at an early age in the Lutheran church. On Jan. 23, 1890, she was married to Rasmus G. Olson and they were the parents of five children, Torkel, Knudt, Amos, Sadie and Raymond. Mr. Olson died April 17, 1901, and their four sons also preceded their mother in death.

On Dec. 6, 1906, she was married to Thomas Sunde and they have always made their home on their farm northeast of Estherville. They are the parents of two children, Elvin and Hazel. Mrs. Sunde has been a member and worker in the Palestine church and the Ladies Aid.

Suffers Heart Attack
It was after a heart attack on Sept. 7 that she was confirmed to her home. On Oct. 11 a second severe heart attack weakened her condition.

She is survived by her husband, three children, Sadie, Elvin and Hazel, five grandchildren, Glen Olson of Chicago, Arnold Olson, Charles, Jean and Thomas Lance Sunde, three sisters, Mrs. Sadie Edmunds of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. Myrtle Kaldem of Gardner, Ill., and two brothers Mons Mathison of Gardner, Ill., and Knute Mathison of Morris, Ill.
