Mrs. S. Lodden Dies; Rites Set for Saturday
Mrs. Sarah Lodden, 83, Estherville, died at 11:25 p.m. Dec. 8 at Holy Family Hospital from complications of advanced age.She was born May 4, 1887, at Estherville, to Mr. and Mrs. Nels Heggen. She attended the Dolliver area schools.
She was married in 1911 to Andrew Vorland, who died in 1930. She was married July, 1932, to Rangvold Lodden at Sioux Falls. Mr. Lodden died in August, 1959.
Following her first marriage, they farmed near Halfa, until Mr. Vorland’s death. At that time, she moved to Estherville. Following her marriage to Mr. Lodden, both moved to rake, until 1942, when they returned to Estherville.
She was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church and was active in the women’s organizations of the church.
She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Gerhardt Vorland, a missionary in Nagoya, Japan, and Dr. Earl Vorland, Cedar Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Alvina) Oleson, Albuquerque, N. Mex.; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Lewis Heggen; and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Matre and Mrs. Andros Hanson, all of Estherville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, one son, one daughter, one brother and one sister.
Family services will be Saturday at 1 pm. at the Estherville Lutheran Church, followed by public services at the church at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Stephen Engelstad will officiate. Burial will be in the Palestine Lutheran Cemetery, Dolliver.
Friends may call at the Reese-Henry home in Estherville after 7 p.m. Thursday until noon on Saturday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 10, 1970)
