Victor Whalen’s Rites Set for Thursday
Dolliver – Funeral services for Victor Lloyd Whalen, 81, Dolliver, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Dolliver, with the Rev. Travis Cannaday officiating and burial at the Dolliver Cemetery. He had passed away Saturday [January 12, 1975] morning at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Mr. Whalen was born Sept. 9, 1894 [per cemetery records & WWI Draft record 1893] at High Wood, Ill., and received his education there. He moved to the Swea City area at the age of 12 and was married to Ethel Wilma Cameron in Algona May 19, 1935.

They farmed near Swea City before he became a rural mail carrier for Dolliver for 41 years. He retired in 1964. He had been a member of the Dolliver United Methodist Church and the Izaak Walton League, Dolliver.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Myrna) Berry and Mrs. Everett (Lois) Mason, Minneapolis; one stepson, Jack Benjamin, Estherville; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Charron, Waukegan, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one brother and two sisters.
