Funeral services for Marjorie Catherine Sherling, 88, of Estherville and formerly of Dolliver will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Estherville United Methodist church with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the funeral service prior to the funeral service at Estherville United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Dolliver.

She died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the Estherville Good Samaritan Center.

Marjorie Sherling, the daughter of Harry and Alice (Holben) Carrigan, was born Feb. 28, 1918. She grew up in Harrison County and attended Allen Creek Country School. Marj was united in marriage to Donald Sherling on Aug. 24, 1938, in Council Bluffs. After their marriage, they lived in Clinton and later moved to Dolliver where they owned and operated the D & M Café. Marj continued operating the café after Don passed away on Nov. 18, 1970. In 1990 she sold the café and moved into an apartment building in Estherville. In September 2005 Marj entered the Estherville Good Samaritan Center. She was a member of the Estherville United Methodist Church and former member of the Dolliver United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her six children and their spouses, Alene Rosburg and her special friend, Roger Smith, of Estherville, Allan and Kathy Sherling of Dolliver, Alice Metzger of Estherville, Albert and Holly Sherling of Estherville, Joe and Lori Sherling of Estherville, and Suellen and Daryl Madison of Estherville; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild and one step-great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and three brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 10, 2006)
