Iowa Storm Has Toll of Two By Electrocution
Thompson Man Killed in Working at Power Station
Two Iowans were killed Thursday night during a storm which swept over Iowa, causing heavy damage at Sioux City but ironically leaving the sections needing moisture most with little rain.

The dead:
Charles Shuttleworth 42, Thompson
Matt Brown, 37, farmer near Green Island

Shuttleworth was electrocuted about 6:45 o’clock Thursday night when he was called to repair a blown out fuse in the electric substation of the Interstate Power company. He was manager of the local elevator and also served as trouble man for the power company.

It is thot Shuttleworth went up to fix the wires and failed to turn the current off. Electricity of 33,000 volts is brot to Thompson and stepped down for local service.

Stretched Over Wires
Shuttleworth’s body was stretched across three wires. The power was turned off later but it was an hour after he was electrocute before the body could be removed.

The coroner was called from Forest City. The substation is located near the Rock Island railroad station.

Shuttleworth is survived by his widow and one son, Paul, 7; a step-daughter, Lemona Kenocke [Koenecke], Estherville; brothers, A.C. Shuttleworth, Estherville and Samuel, California, and his mother, California. He was a member of the Methodist church. Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Shuttleworth Killed While Working on High Line
Charles Shuttleworth of Thompson, Iowa, brother of Arthur Shuttleworth of this city was electrocuted while working on a high line there Thursday [June 11, 1931]. Mr. Shtutleworth has one small son and a stepdaughter, Lomena Konecke [Koenecke]. The funeral services were held Sunday at Thompson. Mrs. Shuttleworth was Alice Reed Koenecke and is a sister of Mrs. Minn Wertz of this city. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 17, 1931)

Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Stowe attended the funeral of Charlie Shuttleworth at Thompson last Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. John Westrem called at the home of her parents a short time Sunday morning. She was on her way to Thompson to attend the funeral of Charles Suttleworth.

Mr. and Mrs. S.B. Reed, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Anderson, Mrs. Ruth Cayler and Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Eckhart attended the funeral Sunday afternoon of Charles Shuttleworth whose tragic death by electrocution occurred at Thompson last Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Shuttleworth is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reed. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 17, 1931)

Electrocuted During a Storm
Chas. Shuttleworth, a grain elevator manager at Thompson, Winnebago county, was electrocuted during a storm Thursday night. He went to an electric plant to assist in remedying some difficulty and received an electric charge that killed him. He was found dead on the floor of the plant an hour after his life was snuffed out. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 17, 1931)
