Woman Dies at Home of Daughter
Mrs. Niels Jespersen, 88, died at 4:15 a.m. today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gerald Richards, of Dolliver. Death was due to infirmities of advanced age.

The body will lie in state at the Richards’ home from 1 p.m. Friday until 10:30 a.m. Saturday. A family service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Richards’ home and public services are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dolliver Methodist Church.

Rev. Don Glazier of Mingo will officiate at the services, assisted by Rev. Herman U. Smith.

Ellen Kristine Smidt was born on March 26, 1877, in Denmark. Her parents were Hannah and Christian Smidt.

She married Niels Jespersen at Outrup, Denmark, May 30, 1902. The Jespersens came to the United Sates in 1909 and settled at Maple Hill. They moved to Dolliver after retiring and Mrs. Jespersen had made her home with her daughter.

She is survived by four sons: Christian of Estherville, Sigfred of Des Moines, Holger of Pasadena, Calif., and Harry of Estherville; a daughter, Mrs. Emma Richards of Dolliver; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Jessen of Estherville, Stina Hansen of McIntire and Sena Caspersen of Denmark; one brother, Yeppe Smidt of Denmark; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Antoin and Louis Smidt. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 1, 1965)

Note: Niels Jespersen died in 1966, not prior to Ellen’s death.
