Estherville Woman Dies; Rites Tuesday
Mrs. Kristianna (Anna) Jessen, 83, Estherville, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday [March 1, 1969] at Holy Family Hospital from congestive heart failure. She had been in poor health for the past year.

She was born Aug. 28, 1885, at Outrup, Denmark, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Smidt. She received her education in Denmark and came to the United States Dec. 3, 1903, with a sister. They settled in Petersburg, Ill. In August, 1905, she came to Dolliver.

She was married March 7, 1908, to Ingvard Jessen at Ringsted. They spent their lives farming near Dolliver except for five years when they farmed in the Gruver area.

Mr. Jessen died in 1949.

Mrs. Jessen attended Dolliver Methodist Church until she moved to Estherville in 1950.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Dorrance (Irene) Brown of Davenport; a son, Thorvald Jessen of Dolliver; four grandchildren, Robert Jessen of Armstrong; Mrs. Dean Pelz of Paullina, James Jessen of Brookings, S.D., and David Brown in the Coast Guard at New London, Connn.; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Sina Caspersen of Barsmark, Denmark.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Dolliver Methodist Church, the Rev. Donald Glazier officiating. Burial will be in Dolliver cemetery.

Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home anytime today and until 10 a.m. on Tuesday when the casket will be taken to the church.

Pallbearers will be Einer Hansen, Waldemer Hansen, Chris Jespersen, Harry Jespersen, Gustav Smidt, and Halvor Smidt. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 3, 1969)
