Emmett A. Anderson Griese 1921-2008

Emmett A. Anderson, the daughter of T.E. and Elma (Dick) Anderson, was born February 21, 1921, in Estherville, Iowa. She passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at her son's home in Dolliver, Iowa, at the age of 87.

She attended country schools and graduated from Gruver High School in 1938.

On December 31, 1939, she was united in marriage to Carl Griese at First Christian Church in Estherville. They were blessed with four boys, Edward, Carl Jr., William and Donald. They spent their entire married life in Dolliver.

Emmett was a hard worker. She hauled cream for the Dolliver Creamery. She helped Carl with his janitorial duties at the Dolliver School until it closed. She cooked for three years at the Dolliver Lunch Program and then proceeded to drive bus for the Dolliver and then Lincoln Central for twenty-five years, retiring in 1990. Emmett was a great sports fan and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Emmett had been very active in the American Legion Auxiliary where she sewed many things for the Veterans Administration hospitals. She served her unit as president for many years, also serving as county president as well as district Chaplin two times. She served as Dolliver Mayor for six years after Carl's death and now serves on the Dolliver City Council. Carl died in May of 1991.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Dolliver; the Dolliver American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Post 3388 Auxiliary in Estherville.

Left to cherish Emmett's memory are her son's, Edward and his wife, Linda; Carl Jr. and his wife, Delores; William and his wife, Sally; Donald and his wife, Joey; thirteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis Anderson and his wife, Edna; Oliver Anderson; sisters, May Rose Eide and her husband, Cecil; Edith Brandt.

Preceding Emmett in death were her husband; parents; and four brothers.

INTERMENT: Lincoln Township Cemetery, Dolliver (MC)
