Edward C. Evans Dies in Oats Field
Ringsted – Edward C. [Carl] Evans, 59, of Halfa died yesterday morning while hitching his combine in an oats field. The death, apparently the result of coronary attack, occurred about 11 o’clock.Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Friday, at the Trinity Lutheran church here, the Rev. John D. Meyer officiating.
Evans, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elman Evans, attended school in Dolliver. In 1921 he was married to Anna Balmer at Fairmont and then lived on a farm near Dolliver where he remained for 15 years. For more than 20 years he has farmed near Halfa.
Besides his widow, one son and three daughters survive. They are Lawrence of Armstrong, Mrs. Tom (Joyce) Putney, Mankato; Mrs. Jerry (Lillian) Mullowney, Minneapolis and Mrs. David (Doris) Norman, Minneapolis.
Mrs. Bessie Miller, Ringsted, and Mrs. Lee Miller, Dolliver, are sisters of the deceased and Raymond Evans of Estherville is the only living brother.
Another brother, Floyd, and his parents preceded Evans in death.
A family service is planned for 1:30 Friday at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home here. Friends may call at the home from today until time of services. Burial will be in the Dolliver cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Russell Miller, Ringsted; Randall Miller, Ringsted; Wayne Miller, Lake Mills; Ralph Miller, Jackson; William Miller, Dolliver; and Robert Evans, Dolliver. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 4, 1960)
