Mrs. Howard Aged 70, Dies After Illness
Mrs. W.R. Howard, 70, for many years a resident of Estherville, died at her home Saturday evening after a month’s illness resulting from a severe cold which later developed into pneumonia.Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Mahlum and Anderson funeral parlors with Rev. M.M. Cook officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery near Piro, Iowa.
Sarah E. Sadler [Sattler] was born Oct. 14, 1861, at Bloomington, Ill. She with her parents [Edward Sattler and Emeline Jane Clearwater Sattler], moved to Carson, Ia., in the year 1874, where on Nov. 9, 1879, she was married to Mr. W.R. Howard.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard have spent their entire married life in Iowa, and in 1919 moved to Estherville where they have resided since.
Mrs. Howard was the mother of fourteen children, seven boys and seven girls, ten of whom are now living, two boys and one girl having died in infancy. One daughter, Mrs. Ada Knapp, of Winnebago, Nebr., passed away in 1928.
The living children are, Elmer, Nellie, Ralph and Ira of Estherville, Mrs. Genevieve Blalock, of Absorokee, Mont.; Manning, of Winner, S.Dak.; Mrs. Sophia Hobbs, of Camp Cook S. Dak.; Mrs. Jessie Lynn, of N. Milwaukee, Wis., Albert of Sioux City and Mrs. Laura Heiter, of Arnolds Park, Iowa. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 25, 1931)
