Graettinger Man Dies At Age 78
Salomon Jackson Schaffer, 78, of Graettinger, died at 11:45 a.m. Friday [October 8, 1965] at the Lutheran Nursing Home in Estherville. Death was attributed to pneumonia with complications. Mr. Schaffer had been in failing health for eight years.He was born in Kenney, Ill., in 1886, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Schaffer. He received his education in Kenney.
In 1912 he was married to Maude Hanson in Mexico, Mo. They lived in Kenney until 1936, when they moved to Graettinger.
While in Kenney, he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad. He was later employed by the Graettinger Block and Tile Co.
Mr. Schaffer is survived by his wife, Maude, of Graettinger; two daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Martha) Weber of Estherville and Mrs. Helen Pierce of Webster City; one grandson and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, two brothers and four sisters.
Burial will be at the East Side Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home from 9 a.m. Sunday until the time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 9, 1965)
