Dolliver – Services for Alton Clabaugh, 72, of Dolliver will be held Monday, June 28 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church at Dolliver with the Rev. Dan Miller officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Twp. Cemetery, rural Dolliver with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville. He died June 24 at his home, rural Dolliver.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
He was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Webster City, the son of Charles and Susie (Claude) Clabaugh. He moved to Emmet County at a young age with his family and lived at Maple Hill and Dolliver where he received his education in country school, he Dolliver school and he graduated from Maple Hill High School in 1945. Following high school, he served in the United States Army during World War II.
On Dec. 24, 1946, he married Margaret LaVaunne Anderson in Jackson, Minn. Following his military service and marriage, he was employed at various jobs in the area. He began farming in 19652. After retirement he worked for Farm Service in Gruver and Maple Hill Ag in Maple Hill until the fall of 1998.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and VFW Post 3388 in Estherville.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Clabaugh, Dolliver; daughter, Barbara Houge and her husband Toby, Dolliver; granddaughter: Jennifer Jo Bradley and husband Doug of Gruver; grandson: Travis Hough; brothers: Donald, Estherville and Clifford, Dolliver; sisters: Neomi Linn, Jeanette Syverson and husband Dona and Viola Clabaugh, Estherville; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Alvin and brother Charles. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 26, 1999)
