Mrs. Balmer Dies at 81; Rites Set
Mrs. Andrew (Anna Marie) Balmer, 81, died Friday [November 22, 1963] afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past two years. Mrs. Balmer was taken to the hospital a few hours before she died of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Anna Balmer was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Fredricksen. She was born July 2, 1882 in Denmark and came to the United States with her parents in 1884. On Oct. 19, 1899 she was wed to Andrew Balmer in Cedar Falls. Later the Balmers moved to Grundy County where they were engaged in farming for a number of years before moving to Buchanan county where they also farmed.

In 1901 they moved to the Dolliver area and were engaged in farming until their time of retirement when they moved into the town of Dolliver in 1943. Anna Marie Balmer was a resident of the Good Samaritan Home since September 1962.

She was a charter member of the Dolliver Lutheran Church and was an active member of ladies groups in the church.

Her survivors are two sons H.A. Balmer, Estherville; Harry Balmer, Armstrong. Four daughters also survive her. They are Mrs. James (Alma) Hill of Estherville; Mrs. L.A. (Edna) Anderson of Chikio, Minn.; Mrs. A.J. (Leona) Redlinger of Lake Benton, Minn.; Mrs. Fred (Emma) Martin of Fresno, Calif.

Twenty-one grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren also survive Mrs. Balmer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, two sisters and one brother.

Family services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, in the Dolliver Lutheran Church with Public Services at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. W.G. Storm will officiate.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home from noon Sunday until 10:00 Tuesday morning when the casket will be taken to the church in Dolliver to lie in state until the time of services. Burial will be in the Dolliver Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 23, 1963)
