Peter Benson Passes Away
Peter Benson of Jackson passed away at his home last Tuesday morning from a sudden heart attack.

Mr. Benson, aged 77, was one of the earliest settlers in Petersburg township and was well known in that vicinity.

He was born in Hallingdal, Norway, on January 30, 1865, and then came to America with his parents in 1867.

In February, 1893, he was married to Miss Julia Erickson. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Philip of Petersburg, Selius [Nelius] of Jackson, and two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Shegren of Petersburg, and Mrs. William Tuttle of Middletown township.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon with Rev. A. M. Mannes in charge. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 4, 1942)

Funeral services honoring Peter Benson were held from Our Savior’s Lutheran church of Jackson, Rev. A.M. Mannes in charge of services. Mr. Benson passed away at his home Tuesday where he had been seriously ill for several months.

Peter Benson was born in Hollingdal, Norway, January 30, 1865 and accompanied his parents to America, where his parents homesteaded in Petersburg township and where he spent his boyhood years.

He leaves to mourn, his devoted wife, two sons, Philip of Petersburg, Nelius F. of Jackson and two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Shelgren of Petersburg and Mrs. William Tuttle of Middletown Township.

He is also mourned by two brothers, Louis of Superior, Iowa, Dr. Benson of Minneapolis, one sister of Barnsville, and eight grandchildren.

The pallbearers were Albert Brunsvold, Ben Brusnvold, Walter Brunsvold, Earl Thompson, Verlen Droies and Belmore Benson. Burial was in the family lot in the Riverside cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 6, 1942)
