TWO BUFFALO BOYS MEET AWFUL DEATH
Drown While Playing in Pond At The Phearson Farm
Last Thursday evening the entire community was saddened by the terrible news that reached us. Two of our brightest young lads were drown in Phearson's pond. It did not seem possible, but it was the will of the Lord. Harry Benson and Paul Diemert, the sunbeams of two good families, had passed away from this world to their Master. Harry Benson, Paul Diemert and Porter Johnson left town about half past four for a bathe in the pond at the Phearson farm. After bathing for about an hour. Porter Johnson left the other two boys, who were still playing in the water, and started for home. A few minutes after Porter left for town, one of the hired men who was bringing in the cows for milking noticed the lads' clothing but did not see the boys. Thinking something had happened, he told Dan Phearson who immediately notified local parties. Several autos filled with men left for the place as fast as possible. They waded and searched the pond for several hours but were unable to locate the bodies. A car was sent to Tower City for a boat and drag. With the aid of these the bodies were soon located.

Harry Benson was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ambert Benson. He was born in this village on the 29th day of January, 1903 being nearly 12 years old at the time of his death. He was a likeable little fellow, always ready to help, which made him a favorite among all who knew him. The funeral services were held here, Friday at 10:00 am Reverend Johnston officiating. The burial was made in the beautiful Buffalo cemetery. The loss of these two boys is a sad one to the parents and their many friends. The entire community wishes to extend its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved ones. (Buffalo Express, Buffalo, ND, September, 1914)
