A difficult surgical operation was performed in this city yesterday by Dr. Bachman, assisted by Drs. Livingston and Pride, the patient being Mrs. Olson of Estherville. The operation consisted of the removal of a large tumor which weighed between 35 and 40 pounds. The patient stood the trying ordeal pretty well and is resting quite comfortable – West Bend Journal (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, March 10, 1892)

About ten days ago Mrs. Ole W. Oleson went to West Bend to have a tumor removed. The operation was successfully performed, but the poor woman did not have strength to rally and died Thursday [March 10, 1892] night at that place. The sorrowing husband and children are nearly crushed by the cruel blow and are deeply sympathized with by friends and neighbors. The funeral was held at the Lutheran church Saturday afternoon, Rev. Engh officiating. The interment was made in the Norwegian cemetery north of town. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, March 17, 1892)
