The remains of Thomas Leiren old resident of this city but who since 1907 has been a resident of Lemmon, S.D., were brought here Saturday for burial. Thos. Leiren was at one time partner of K. Gronstal of this city, and is a brother of Mrs. Gronstal. He was born at Tysness Island, Norway, on Aug. 1st, 1854 and died at St. Paul Hospital Dec. 9th. He was united in marriage to Valjar Nelson, November 1st, 1882. They came to this country in 1883 and settled at Sheldahl. In 1884 they moved to Estherville. Mrs. Leiren died in this city on May 5th, 1887. Mr. Leiren leaves two sons, James and Nels and a sister Mrs. K. Gronstal one brother in Australia and one in Norway to mourn his death. The funeral services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran church on Saturday, the Rev. Berge officiating and the remains were laid to rest beside those of his wife in the Norwegian cemetery north of this city. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 17, 1919)

Funeral services were conducted in the Norwegian Lutheran church on Saturday afternoon over the remains of Thomas Leiren who passed away at the St. Paul Hospital at St. Paul, Minnesota, Tuesday, December 9th.Thomas Leiren was born in Tyser-en-aen, Norway August 1, 1854, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Onerheim, Tyseren congregation. In 1882 he was married to Valjor Nelson and the next year they came to America, settling in Sheldahl, Iowa. In 1884 they moved to Estherville, Iowa, where Mrs. Leiren died in 1887. In 1907 he moved to Adams County, North Dakota, where he homesteaded. Of late he had made his home at Lemmon, South Dakota. Some time ago he was taken ill. he was brought to St. Paul Hospital where he died. He is survived by his two sons, Martin James and Nels Olen, a sister, Mrs. Knut Gronstal, and two brothers. Thomas Leiren, an old time resident of this city, died December 9, in St. Paul, Minnesota, after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Leiren was formerly in business in Estherville, under the firm name of Gronstal & Leiren. He moved to North Dakota some years ago, where he homesteaded, but of late years he has lived in Lemmon, South Dakota.Thomas Leiren was born in Tysness-oen, Norway, August 1, 1854, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Onerheim Tysness congregation. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Valjor Nelson, and the next year they emigrated to America, settling in Sheldahl, Iowa. In 1884 they moved to Estherville, Iowa, where Mrs. Leiren died in 1887.
Several weeks ago he was taken ill. He was taken to the St. Paul Hospital, where he died. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons, Martin James and Nels Olai; a sister, Mrs. Knut Gronstal, and two brothers.
