Marlys Heiman Albers, 1935-2006

Marlys Elaine Heiman was born July 31, 1925, in Thompson, Iowa, the daughter of Philip and Ethel (Myers) Heiman. She entered into eternal life January 15, 2006, at Rosewood Manor, Estherville, at the age of 80 years,
5 months, and 15 days.

She graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1942 and then completed business school In Minneapolis. On December 21, 1944 she was united in marriage to Fred Andrew Albers at St. Patrick's Rectory in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Fred was stationed in Seattle from the remainder of the war and Marlys worked at Bremerton Naval Base's Canteen. The couple moved to Swea City in 1949 and made their home there for 40 years. Marlys operated a coffee shop from 1950-1951. In 1952, she went to work at the Hiway Cafe for several years. She worked at the Central Telephone company in 1953, first as switchboard operator ,then as chief operator until the first of 1957. After the birth of their first child, she became a fulltime homemaker. Following Fred's death in 1979, she became a bank teller at the Swea City State Bank and retired in 1989. She moved to Estherville in 1989 and entered the Rosewood Manor Nursing home in 2001.a

She was active in her church (St Mary's and St Patrick's) taught CCD, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters.
Served as an adult leader for the girl scouts and cub scouts. Her hobbies included antiquing, craft work, rose mauling, and calligraphy. She served as the Widow's League Service Liaison of The Heritage Foundation of the U.S.S. Gambier Bay and VC-10 INC. ; was a member of Avera Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary, Rosewood Manor Auxiliary, and very involved in her grandchildren's athletic and extra curricular activities.

Privileged to have been a part of her life and left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Stacie and her husband, Tom Inman of Estherville and their children, Andy, Chris, and Laura; and son, Philip Albers and his wife Jackie of Swea City and their children, Brittany, Molly, and Kelsey.
She is also survived by her aunt, Thelma Turnbaugh of Buffalo Center, Iowa, her sister, Donna Winter of Mason City, Iowa, and her brother, Robert Heiman and his wife Lois of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; her sister, MaryAnn McBride; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
