Military Rites Held Here for Thomas George
David Thomas George, 23, son of Gladys and David M. George, was born Feb. 13, 1934 at Estherville and spent his entire life here until entering the Armed Forces in October of 1955. He died Jan. 15 at Hammersmith Hospital in London, England of severe pyelonephritis. He had been injured in a fall Dec. 28 while stationed in Hanover, Germany.

George received his education in the Estherville schools, graduating with the class of 1952. He attended college for one year at Wessington Springs, S.D. A member of the Free Methodist church for several years, he transferred his membership to the Church of the Nazarene when the two local churches united.

Survivors are his sister; one sister, Mrs. Richard (Mabel) Moser; one brother, Elmer; one nephew and two nieces, Ricky, Gloria and Mary Jo Moser; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ruckman.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carroll Dean and Delmar, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David George, who were residents of Armstrong.

Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Church of the Nazarene, the Rev. Kathryn Loutzenhiser officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lewis Larson.

Four songs entitled, “The Way of the Cross Leads Home,” “When the Mists Have Rolled Away,” “Now I Belong to Jesus,” and “Beyond the Sunset” were sung by Mrs. Larson and Mrs. Haukoos, accompanied by Mrs. Vernon Topp of Huntington.

Pallbearers were classmates from the 1952 class. They were John Croner, Raymond Jensen, Lawrence Jones, Jim Reuland, John Rosenow and Tom Stearns.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Sgt. Hought of the U.S. Army was Military escort for the body and presented the flag draping the casket to Mrs. George.

Attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Houts and family of Watertown, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd George of Ringsted, Mrs. Mary Hopkins of Leon, Mrs. Jennet Williams of Colfax, Mrs. Jannett Wiley of Lakefield, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. George Steenhusen of Irwin, Mrs. LeAnn Hand of Fairmont, Mrs. Harlan Harris of Algona, Mrs. Howard Cupples of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Meyers of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Lawrence Kettman of Fort Dodge, Wade Ruckman of Casper, Why., the Rev. and Mrs. Herbert Baker of Wykoff, Minn., the Rev. Kenneth Goodberry of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Bailey and Waneta of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. James Colleran of Minneapolis, Mrs. Veldon Echolm and Lyle of Armstrong and Mrs. King and daughter of Emmetsburg. Mrs. Richard Mosher’s Brother Dies in Fall
Tom George, in the U.S. Army at Hanau, Germany, died Tuesday following a fall from a four-story building. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David George, Estherville, and a brother of Mrs. Richard Mosher, 116 17th S.E. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
