Obituary of Sigvart Olsen Amdal
Sigvart Olsen Amdal was born March 15, 1870, in Tysvar prestegjeld, Norway. There he was baptized as a child and later confirmed by pastor Svendson who gave the testimonial of being an diligent catechumen. 1894 he emigrated to America coming first to Goldfield, Iowa. In about a year he came to Estherville where he has resided since. Most of this time he was employed by the Rock Island railway, having been in their service 31 years. April 9, 1897, he was united in marriage to Augusta Wicks of Estherville. To this union has been born five children all of whom are living and can follow their father to his last resting place. They are Arthur, Clarence, Augusta and Selmer of Estherville, and Caroline Erickson of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Mr. Amdal has been in failing health for the past three years. Since the 14th of July this year he has been closely confined at home and for the last three months unable to leave his bed. He was conscious of the near approach of the end, and some of the last words he was heard to say was a prayer that the Lord would come and take him. Besides the sorrowing wife and children he leaves 3 brothers in Norway and 4 grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the Estherville Lutheran church where the family has held membership since 1915. Interment was made in the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery.
