Mrs. Amdahl Dies Following Illness of Several Years
Mrs. S.O. Amdahl [Amdal], nee Augusta Wicks, was born May 24, 1868 in Sconenik, Norway, to Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Wicks. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church there and grew to young womanhood there before coming to America. She came to America in the year 1890, coming to the community of Estherville. She worked in the home of the Pastor serving the Norwegian Lutheran Church here at that time, namely Rev. Engh, during the time the church on South 10th Street was in the process of building.

On April 9, 1897 she was united in marriage with Sigvold O. Amdahl [Amdal] of this community and they made their home here. God blessed their home with five children. Arthur, who died in December, 1932, Clarence of Cedar Rapids, Augusta and Selmar of Estherville and Mrs. Caroline Larson of San Pedro, California. On November 3, 1927, her husband was taken away in death.

Mrs. Amdahl had always been active in the affairs of her church of which she had been a member since coming to this community, but six years ago she suffered an injury in which a bone in her foot was broken and since that time has been confined for the most part to her home. A few months ago her health started failing rapidly, and on Friday morning, January 16, at 6:15, passed away very quietly after a rich and blessed life.

She is survived by her living children that have been mentioned above and by the following brothers, Ben and Pete Wicks of Estherville; John, Oscar and Johannts of Sioux Falls, and Mike of Mt. Rose, S. Dak. She is also survived by seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, January 21. Interment was made at the Lutheran Cemetery on the family lot. She will be greatly missed in the church in which she was very active as long as her health permitted and also by a large host of friends. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 29, 1948)
