Mrs. Andrew Walen Dies; Rites Tuesday
Mrs. Andrew Walen, 76, died at 12:55 p.m. yesterday at holy Family Hospital. She had been ill with a coronary condition for only a short time.

A resident of Estherville since 1936, Mrs. Walen was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.

She was born April 2, 1885 at Vincent, but lived much of her life with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson, in the Ceylon area.

Annie Olivia Anderson was married Feb. 8, 1911 to Andrew Walen at Ceylon. For two years the couple farmed north of Dolliver, then moved to Corinth, N.D., where they resided until coming to Estherville.

Mrs. [Mr.] Walen, three sons and three daughters survive. Sons are Norman of Santa Monica, Calif., Ervin of Fresno, Calif., and Archie of Des Moines. Daughters are Mrs. Warren (Gladys) Williamson, Minneapolis; Mrs. Irvin (Thelma) Munson, Estherville; and Mrs. Clayton (Bernice) Thorson, Winnebago, Minn.

She is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Ray Poland, Colton, Calif.; Mrs. E.L. Rock, Ontario, Calif.; and Mrs. F.M. Vaughan, Huntington Park, Calif.

Public services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Estherville Lutheran church. The family will attend a service at 11:30 the same day at the Sternborg-Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Roy Hendrickson and the Rev. L.A. Mathre will conduct the services.

Burial will be in Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home after noon on Sunday until 11 a.m. Tuesday when the casket will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 15, 1961)
