Tendal Rites Are Monday
Funeral services for Lars Tendal, 72, who died at his home here early yesterday will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Estherville Lutheran Church, the Rev. Roy Hendrickson officiating. A family service will be held at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. L.A. Mathre officiating.

Mr. Tendal had been in failing health for the past year. Death was attributed to a liver ailment.

He was born March 14, 1889 at Skonevik, Norway, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Tendal. He received his education in Skonevik Schools and in 1910 came to the United States with his brother.

On June 11, 1913 he was married to Olga Elefsen, at Estherville where they have since made their home.

Mr. Tendal was employed by the Rock Island Railroad as a building and bridge foreman for 45 years, retiring in 1954. He has been a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church for the past 50 years.

Survivors include the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Arless (Edith) Rukke, St. Paul; and Mrs. David (Agnes) Smith, Battle Creek, Mich.; two sons, Lewis of Estherville and E. Carl Tendal, San Diego, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren.

Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Berdinas Taralsey and a brother, Arne, both of Norway. He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home from noon Saturday until 11 a.m. Monday when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. Burial will be in Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Estherville Lutheran Church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 13, 1961)
