ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Waneta Sunde, 87, of Estherville will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Paul Wiegman officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

She died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.

Waneta Mae (Summers) Sunde, the daughter of Earl and Pearl (VanKirk) Summers, was born June 28, 1924, in Ringsted.

She received her education in the Red Oak schools, graduating from Red Oak High School in 1941.
On Jan. 31, 1947, she was united in marriage to Raymond Sunde at the First Presbyterian Church in Ringsted. Waneta was baptized on May 30, 1948, at Estherville Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Estherville, where they raised their two children. Waneta served 20 years as clerk for the Selective Service System. In 1965, Waneta and Ray opened and owned Ray's Farm Store until they sold it in 1983. Waneta continued to work at the store until her retirement. Ray passed away on April 29, 2004.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish Waneta's memory are her two sons, Steven Sunde and his wife, Sandra, of St. James, Minn. and Scott Sunde and his wife, Natalie Fobes, of Seattle; five grandchildren, Berit Morse and her husband, Charlie, of Plymouth, Minn., Maren Viland and her husband, Darren, of Faribault, Minn., Kristina (Sunde) Wood and her husband, Eric, of Madison, Wis., Virginia Sunde of Seattle and Phoebe Sunde of Seattle; six great-grandchildren, Grace, Maggie and Elliott Viland of Faribault, Annabelle and William Morse of Plymouth, Minn. and Sheldon Wood of Madison, Wis.

Preceding Waneta in death were her husband; parents; brothers, Harry, Jerry and Lloyd and sister, Doris. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 6, 2011)
