1897-1979
Estherville – George Richard, 81, Graettinger and formerly of Estherville, died Monday [March 26, 1979] at the Wide View Nursing Home, Paulina.

Services for Mr. Richard will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, with the Rev. Elmer boom of the Methodist Camp in Spirit Lake officiating. Interment will be in the Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday until time of services Friday.

Mr. Richard was born Oct. 17, 1897, in Sac County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Richard. He moved to the Wallingford area with his family at the age of eight and attended country schools in the Wallingford area.

He was married to Alma Bergeson on June 28, 1922, in Wallingford. The couple farmed following their marriage and Mr. Bergeson later did carpentry work in the area, helping build the Tobin Packing Company’s plant in Estherville, where he was later employed. He retired in 1960. Mr. Richard was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Mr. Richard is survived by four sons, LaVern Richard, Lake Park, Dale Richard, Anchorage, Alaska, Merle Richard, Bettendorf, and Duane Richard, Milford; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Maurine) Pinegar, Des Moines; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, one grandson, parents, one brother and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 28, 1979)
