Estherville – Gilbert Burton Ness, 80, of Estherville died at his home Saturday [April 23, 1988]. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Kermit Rye at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Estherville Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home here.
The deceased was born Aug. 6, 1907, in Hamilton County, the son of Iver and Gunhild (Stokka) Ness. He received his education in the rural schools of Emmet County.
He was married to Florence Clara Anderson Oct. 10, 1932, at Cylinder. The couple lived and farmed in Emmet and Palo Alto Counties. He also worked for the Estherville Creamery for seven years and was a custodian for the Estherville School District. He worked a few years for the Huntington Elevator. Mr. Ness had been a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Florence, of Estherville; two daughters and a son: Mrs. John (Marilyn) Collentine of Cedar Rapids; Arlin Ness of Albion, Mi., and David Ness of Kindsbork, Ks.; two siblings, Aadne Ness and Leonard Ness, both of Estherville, and eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, his parents, two brothers and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 25, 1988)
