Death Takes Oscar Matre at Age 82
Oscar John Matre, 82, Estherville, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday [March 29, 1967] at Holy Family Hospital from cancer. He had been in failing for six months.

Mr. Matre was born March 13, 1885 in Indra Matre, Norway to Mr. and Mrs. Anfin Matre. He was educated in Norway and Emmet County schools.

He married Belle Heggen March 4, 1914 at her parents’ home east of Huntington. He came to Emmet county from Norway when he was 19 and farmed near Huntington for two years following his marriage. He moved from Huntington to Cornith, N.D., where he farmed before returning to Estherville in 1919. He was engaged as a carpenter here until his retirement in 1957.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Selmer and James of Estherville, and Abner of Rockford, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Mary Ann) Pomerenke of Okabena, Minn.; eight grandchildren; one brother, Arnfin of Norway; and two sisters, Martha and Bertina of Norway.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Family services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church with public services at 2 p.m. with Roy Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday until noon on Saturday at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home.
