Estherville – Funeral services for Joan [Marie] Lodden, 82, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday Nov. 29 at the Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Ray Miller officiating. Interment will be held at the Estherville Lutheran Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Joan was born on Feb. 20, 1920 in Story City, the daughter of John and Georgia (Barnes) Lodden. Joan received her education in the Estherville Schools, graduating from Estherville High School. She attended Iowa State University in Ames and then continued on to Nursing School in Des Moines.

She joined the United States Navy and served in World War II. Joan then returned to Estherville where she was employed at Holy Family Hospital as a Nurse. She was then called to serve on the U.S.S. HAVEN during the Korean War.

After returning back to Estherville, she concluded her nursing career at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake.

Joan was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church. For hobbies she enjoyed traveling, baking and gardening.

Joan is survived by twelve nieces and nephews, the children of Joseph and Agnes Lodden of Humboldt and Arnold and Georgia Duer of Swea City; also many great nieces and nephews.

She has been preceded in death by her parents, brother, Joseph Lodden; and sisters, Beatrice Lodden and Georgia Duer. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 27, 2002)
