Mrs. Lewis Heggen Dies; Services Held Monday
Mrs. Lewis (Elizabeth) Heggen, 62, Estherville, died at 7 p.m. Dec. 1, 1972, at Holy Family Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at Estherville Lutheran Church with the Rev. Oscar Engebretson officiating. Burial was made in Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Heggen was born Nov. 5, 1910, in Buffalo Center to Chris and Elizabeth Schultz Jensen. She came to Estherville with her parents as a young girl and attended Estherville schools, graduating from high school in the class of 1929 as salutatorian. She was also a member of the National Honor Society.

She taught schools around Estherville and was married to Lewis Heggen July 15, 1932, at Sioux Falls. They lived at Rake, Buffalo Center and came to Estherville in 1939 where they had lived ever since. She was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lewis; two sons, Norman of Lisle, Ill., and Robert of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Burge (Marjorie) Hammond, Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Jensen of Rapid City, S.D.; one sister, Mrs. John Whitacre of Estherville.

Pallbearers for the services were Norris Hanson, Jim Matre, Romaine Hanson, Phillip Hanson, Joe Hanson and Robert Schenck. Reese-Henry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 4, 1972)
