Estherville – Services for Howard Hatland, 93, of Estherville, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Arlyn Norris officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. He died Thursday, Feb. 1, 1996 at Good Samaritan Center, Estherville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born Oct. 10, 1902 in Story County, the son of Benjamin and Mary (Erickson) Hatland. He moved to Emmet County in 1903 with his family and attended Dolliver school and Estherville High School. On Nov. 10, 1927 he married Maude Miller at Fairmont, Minn. Following marriage they farmed in Emmet County until 1971. In 1972 they moved into Estherville. He was custodian for Estherville Lutheran Church for 25 years, also did custodial work for Dr. R.N. Lepird. He became a resident of Good Samaritan Center on Dec. 20, 1989. He was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and had been a member of the Emmet County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Mike (Mildred) Maloney of Estherville and Linda Hatland of San Antonia; a son, Pastor Kenneth Hatland of Mason City; 15 grandchildren: Mary, Hallie, Becki, Karen, Pat, John, Dick, Sharon, Stephen, Kevin, Lynda, Michele, Marc, Christy and Amy; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, Ethan; sisters: Caila Myklebust, Cape Giradeau, Mo. and Helen Christensen, Estherville; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jan. 14, 1991; parents; two brothers and seven sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 3, 1996)
