Rites To Be Tuesday for Lillian Hatland
Lillian [Lillian Ida] Hatland, 42, daughter of Mrs. Ben Hatland of Estherville died at 11 p.m. Friday [January 29, 1954] in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a week’s illness and undergoing surgery there for an obstruction and adhesions.

Born March 14, 1911, in rural Estherville, she was educated in the rural Emmet county schools and Estherville high school. She worked most of her life in Estherville, for a short time in Chicago and for the past year for Collins’ Radio Service in Cedar Rapids.

She was a member of the Estherville Lutheran church, where she was confirmed.

Fred Sternborg and Hary Coffie returned Miss Hatland’s body to Estherville by plane Saturday.

Surviving her death are her mother; four sisters, Mrs. Edna Romsa of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs. Fred (Laura) Ankrum of Mountain Grove, Mo., Mrs. Einer (Helen) Christensen of Estherville and Mrs. C.T. (Caila) Myklebust of Des Moines; two brothers, Howard Hatland of Estherville and Raymond Hatland of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her father in 1950, three sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow for the family at the Einer Chistensen farm home and at 2 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran church. Burial will be in the Estherville Lutheran cemetery.

Friends may call at the Sternborg funeral home tonight until 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Pall bearers will be Merlyn Ankrum of Kansas City, Mo., Don Ankrum of Mountain Grove, Mo., Richard Chistensen, Michael Maloney, Everett Hatland and Dale Erickson, all of Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1954)
