Estherville – Services for E. [Eliam] A. [Andrew] (Andy) Handeland, 91, Estherville, will be held Saturday at Estherville Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Kermit Rye and Pastor Arlyn Norris officiating. Interment will be in Estherville Lutheran Cemetery, Estherville. He died Wednesday, April 7, 1993, at Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 4-8 p.m.

He was born Aug. 1, 1901, in Norway, the son of Lars and Ellen Josephine (Endresen) Handeland. The family moved from Norway and settled in Estherville in 1904 where he received his education. He served with the United States Army from Nov. 3, 1942 until Oct. 21, 1944. He worked at the Murray Iron Works in Burlington during the last years of his army enlistment. He moved back to Estherville in 1946 and was employed by various grocery stores until his retirement in 1971. He has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville since 1987 and was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church.

Survivors include sisters, Clara Beian, Burlington; Jennie Hedrick, Estherville; Josephine Espeset, Estherville; brothers, Birger Handeland, Estherville; Loyd Handeland, Forest City; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Birger, Reinholt and Alfred) and two sisters (Bergloit Sunde and Manghild Handeland). (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 8, 1993)
