John Fransdal
San Diego, Calif. – Memorial services were held Jan. 21, for John Benjamin Fransdal, 58, who died Jan. 8, 1996, at his home in San Diego. Services were conducted by the Rev. Jerry Brandt.

He was born Oct. 13, 1937 at Estherville, the son of Waldemar and Geneva (Haugen) Fransdal and attended Estherville Schools, graduating in 1955 from EHS. He attended Estherville Junior College one year before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in July, 1956. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1960 and was employed a short time by R.C.A. as a radar repair supervisor at an aircraft control and warning radar station in Havre Mont. He completed his education at Calif. State Polytechnical College at Pomona, Calif. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in electronic engineering in 1965. He moved to San Diego and was employed by the Naval Electronics Laboratory in Point Loma. He designed and tested sonar systems for the Navy until his retirement in January, 1993.

He is survived by two daughters, Catherine and Patricia Fransdal both of San Diego; his mother, Geneva Fransdal of Estherville; two brothers: Merrill of Charles City and Wayne of Excelsior, Minn.; four sisters: Joanne Gibson, Sioux City, Susan Brubaker, Seattle, Wash., Elaine Jensen, Wallowa, Ore. and Betty Heidecker of Decator, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his father, Waldemar, and an infant sister. (Estherville Spirit, Estherville, IA, January 23, 1996)
