The community was saddened when word came that Mrs. Hettie Small had passed away suddenly March 5th [6th].

Grandma Small as she was so fondly called by friends.
Her quiet ways will be greatly missed by her many loved ones.

Hettie Littlejohn, daughter of George and Isabel Littlejohn was born November 4, 1871 at Braceville, Illinois. She was one of four children all of which have preceded her in death. Her father and mother, passed away when she was a young child and at that time her grandmother Littlejohn came to care for her family.

Her deeply religious training in her youth greatly influenced her whole life and enriched the lives around her.

She attended normal school and taught a few years in Braceville before her marriage to Guy Small February 3, 1894. To this union were born three sons.

They moved to Iowa in 1901, moving to a farm near Milford. After one year they moved to the Superior Community where she has since resided.

When they moved to Iowa her grandmother Littlejohn came to make her home with them. They cared for her until she passed away at the age of one hundred and one years old.

She has been a member of the Superior Methodist Church since in this community.

She was always active and faithful to her membership. At one time she belonged to the Federated Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, at Superior and the Happy Hour Club in the country, and before coming to Iowa was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, but most of her time was spent for her home and family.

Since her husband’s death in 1939 she has made her home with Wayne and family on her home farm.

In later years she has attended the Estherville church and gained much enjoyment as a member of the Pricilla Class.

She has been in failing health for the past two years and passed away March 6th, 1950 at the Carl Singbusch home in Estherville, where she has spent the past two months.

She was 78 years, 4 months and two days old.

She leaves to mourn her passing her three boys Wilson of Sibley, Floyd of West Palm Beach, Florida and Wayne of Superior. Five grandchildren and eight grandchildren, other relatives and friends. One grandchild Hugh, preceded her in death.

The quartet, Mrs. Julia Lewis, Glen Slingerland, Mrs. Charlotte Thomson, and John Clarke sang, “Will There Be Stars in My Crown” and Mrs. Lewis sang a solo at the services which were held in Superior Methodist Church. Rev. DeLong of Estherville officiated at the service and Rev. Grantham lead the prayer. Burial was made March 9, in the Superior Cemetery by her husband.

The pallbearers were Andrew Christian, Ben Perkins, Will Hanson, Harry Swanson, Irvin Clarke and Ed Eick.

Those attending the services from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Small, Wet Palm Springs, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Small, Sibley, Iowa; Maurice Small of Mankato, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Vern Small, Graettinger, Iowa; Mrs. Charles Walkins, Dalton, Ill., Mrs. J.W.
