Carl Tourgee, 89, Dies; Rites to Be Tuesday
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Reese-Henry Chapel in Estherville for Carl Herbert Tourgee, 89, Estherville, who died at 9:35 p.m. Friday at the Holy Family Hospital from complications following surgery.He was born Aug. 23, 1880, at Ida Grove to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Tourgee. He received his education at the Academy at Sac City and graduated from Iowa State University in 1904. He taught dairy husbandry at the University of Arkansas after leaving college.
Tourgee was married July 25, 1907, to Florence E. Judiesch. They made their home in Fayetteville, Ark., for a time then returned to Ida Grove where they farmed for many years in Clay and Dickinson counties. He retired to Estherville in 1948. Mrs. Tourgee died in 1967.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and the United Methodist Church of Estherville.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lyle Glover, Webb, four grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother.
The Rev. Dick Pearson will officiate with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Masonic services will be Tuesday at the funeral home following the regular service.
There will be Masonic pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home anytime today until time of services Tuesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 29, 1969)
