Mrs. Carl Tourgee Dies at 85
Mrs. Carl H. Tourgee, 85, died Monday [February 20, 1967] at 7:15 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital. Mrs. Tourgee was admitted to the hospital Sunday evening after suffering a stroke at her home.The former Florence Edna Judiesch was born Jan. 16, 1882 at Davenport, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Judiesch. She received her elementary and high school education in the Winterset and Holstein schools and attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls.
Prior to her marriage she taught rural schools in the Holstein area.
She was married July 24, 1907, to Carl H. Tourgee at the home of her parents in Holstein. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Tourgee farmed near Lake Center from 1918 until 1945. That year they moved to a farm south of Superior and lived there until their retirement in 1951, at which time they moved to Estherville.
Mrs. Tourgee was a member of First Methodist church here, also of the Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Methodist WSCS.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Caroline) Glover, of Webb; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Rev. C.R. Buckwalter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Thursday until time of the services Friday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 21, 1967)
