Carl Walz, 68, Dies, Rites To Be Monday
Carl William Walz, 68, longtime resident of Estherville died at 1:30 this morning at the Holy Family Hospital of a double stroke. Mr. Walz entered the hospital July 21.He was born Feb. 14, 1891, in Dowagiac, Mich., the son of Carl and Regina Walz. When a young man, he moved to Fenton, and to Estherville in 1918, at which time he went to work for the Rock Island Railroad as a boiler-maker helper in the local shop. He served in that position for 28 years, at which time he went to work in the local school system as a janitor for five years.
Mr. Walz married Hattie Eldora Weese [Reese] June 20, 1914. She died June 19, 1936. He remarried Aug. 24, 1938 to Rose Viola Elwood at Havre, Mont.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Irene Siewelling of Tacoma, Wash.; three sons, Donald, John and James, all of Estherville. Also surviving him in death are two brothers, John of Dowagiac, Mich., and Harry of Aurora, Ill., one cousin, Charles Wolz [Walz] of Estherville and six grandchildren.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist church in Estherville with the Rev. William Noland officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sternborg funeral home from noon Sunday until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 1, 1959)
