Hold Service For Mrs. Wanamaker
Last rites were held yesterday for Mrs. L.C. Wanamaker, 76, lifetime resident of Estherville, who died Oct. 17 at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge where she had gone this fall to make her home. Mrs. Wanamaker’s sudden death was attributed by her physician to acute hepatitis.Born Jan. 5, 1883, Mattie Barnes moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Barnes, to Estherville when only three months old and had made her home here all through the years with the exception of three years when she and her aged father, Mr. Barnes, made their home at Friendship Haven during the winter months but returned here for the summer months.
She was married to L.C. Wanamaker who was manager of the Estherville Grocer Company for many years.
Mrs. Wanamaker had cared for her father, Lou Barnes, for many years. His death occurred last spring after he had reached the age of 103.
Mrs. Wanamaker was in Estherville for three days, staying at the home of Mrs. G.H. Robb, while attending the centennial observance at First Methodist Church of which she had been a member for more than 50 years. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. John Panzer of this city and one nephew.
Funeral services were held yesterday at 11 a.m. at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, the Rev. William R. Noland officiating. Her body was brought to Oak Hill cemetery in Estherville for burial. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 20, 1959)
