Arlo M Sumpter
Arlo M. Sumpter passed away at the home of his brother, A.W. Sumpter, at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, Dec. 2. He had been bedridden since the First World War at which time he was totally disabled.Arlo Sumpter was born on May 26, 1887, in Racine county, Wis. [per WWI draft record, Dover, Price Co., Wi.] He received his early education in Riceville, Iowa, and later attended the University of Minnesota from which he was graduated. He was then employed as manager of the Chicago office of Dunn and Bradstreet where he worked until his enlistment in the army.
After the war he was in Des Moines hospital for several years. He has made his home with his brother for the past 12 years.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge and American Legion. Surviving Mr. Sumpter is his brother, Arthur, of Estherville. Preceding him in death are his father and mother, sister and two brothers.
At the time of his death he was 56 years, 7 months and 7 days.
Services will be held at the Sternborg funeral chapel at 2:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev. G.E. Conley officiating. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 4, 1943)
