Mrs. Reuben Ridley Dies at Age of 95
A 95-year-old Estherville woman, Mrs. Reuben (Eliza Jane) Ridley, died at 5:30 a.m. yesterday at the Balmer Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past six years.Mrs. Ridley, the mother of William H. Ridley of Estherville, had been seriously ill for the past week. Complications of old age were blamed for the death.
Born Oct. 12, 1866, at Lincoln, Neb., Eliza Jane Coulson received most of her schooling in Nebraska. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. William Coulson.
In 1882 she was married to Reuben Ridley at Marathon. The couple moved to the county about 68 years ago, living first in the Terril and Armstrong areas before coming the Estherville 40 years ago.
She was a member of the B of LF E Auxiliary and the First Methodist Church here.
Mrs. Ridley is survived by her son, William, two grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a brother, Bert Coulson of Jeffers, Minn., and three sisters; Mrs. Sarah Goodge, Des Moines; Mrs. Lizzie Ellis, Wright; and Nora Waterman, Des Moines.
Her husband, one daughter and five brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sternborg-Reese Chapel with the Rev. William Noland officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from this afternoon until time of services. The casket will not be opened after the ceremony. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 31, 1961)
