Estherville – Services for Christine Dorothea Recher, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Berger and Pastor Ronald Flentgen officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. She died Saturday, Oct. 9, at her home.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Monday, until noon Tuesday. The casket will remain closed at the church.

She was born June 9, 1910 at Mechanicsville, Ia., the daughter of Soenke Heinrich and Christine M. (Lorenzen) Petersen, as a child, the family farmed in several localities in Iowa, finally living in Harris before her marriage. On Sept. 7, 1932 she was united in marriage to William Recher and they lived in Spencer for two years and Fairmont two years before moving to Estherville in 1936 when Mr. Recher began the Motor Supply Business. Mrs. Recher became active in the business after his death in 1956. Under her operation the business expanded and the name was changed to Recher, Inc. in 1972. She was active in the business until her death.

Mrs. Recher was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in many activities and on numerous committees. She was a member of Estherville Wa-Tan-Ye; charter member of the Estherville Izaak Walton League; past national president of Izaak Walton Ladies’ League; a coordinator of the Miss Estherville Pageant and active in judging beauty contests in other areas; served on the board of directors of Meals on Wheels; was chairman of Emmet County Social Welfare Board; active in Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce; member of several auto industry associations; Emmet County Farm Bureau; Emmet County Cattleman’s Association; ILCC Century Club; Lutheran Family Service Auxiliary and Estherville Area Arts Council.

Mrs. Recher is survived by three daughters: Gladis D. Volz, Lakewood, Colo., Billie R. Recher, Estherville and Beryl M. George, Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren; two brothers: Max Petersen, Estherville and Cornelius Petersen, Ocheyedan, Ia.; two sisters: Mrs. Sophia Folkers, Sibley and Mrs. Martha Carlson, Marion Ia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and six brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 11, 1982)
