Mrs. Rainey [Reaney], Former Resident, Dies at Home in Devils Lake
Mrs. Samuel Rainey of Devils Lake, N.D., a former Estherville resident and a sister of the late Mrs. C.E. Birney of Estherville, died Saturday at her home. Mrs. Rainey had been ill only a few days. Death was caused by a heart stroke.

Mrs. Rainey was preceded in death by her husband a number of years ago and by one son, Joe, who was killed in World War I. She is survived by her son, Paul.

Mrs. Rainey is a member of AY Chapter of P.E.O.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Devils Lake, N.D. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 25, 1944)

Mrs. Sam Reaney Dies in Dakota
Mrs. Sam Reaney, sister-in-law of Dr. C.E. Birney, passed away at her home in Devils Lake, N. Dak.; early Sunday [September 24, 1944] morning. Details of her passing are not available here but it is thought to have been sudden. She had recently returned from attending the funeral of a sister in Washington state and her sister, the late Mrs. Birney passed to her reward only a few months ago.

One son Paul Reaney of Devils Lake, and a brother, Fred Smith survive. Funeral services were held yesterday and internment made at Devils Lake.

The Reaneys were residents of Estherville, leaving here in the early 1900’s. Mr. Reaney operated a mercantile store and the two sons, one of whom, Major Joe Reaney, was killed in World War I, attended the Estherville schools. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 28, 1944)
