A Prominent Farmer of the County Dies of Bright’s Disease
A.P. Thorne, a prominent resident of this county living on his farm just east of Estherville, died yesterday morning at his home of bright’s disease.The funeral will be held at 1:30 o’clock p.m. Thursday at the home and interment will be made in oak Hill cemetery.
A.P. Thorne was born in Plattsburg, New York, March 8, 1834. In 1865 he married Josephine M. Rudar. This union was blessed with two children, Mrs. Chas. Hamlin of Plattsburg, New York, and Frank, who resides at home.
Mr. Thorne and his family came to Ottawa, Illinois, where they resided until about seven years ago they moved to this county.
Mr. Thorne was an exemplary citizen, a loving husband and a kind father. The community sympathizes with the relatives in their bereavement. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 18, 1908)
A.P. Thorn passes away
A.P. Thorne who has been seriously ill for about ten days, died early Tuesday morning at this home, two miles east of Estherville.Amherst P. Thorn was born March 8th, 1834, in Plattsburg, N.Y., making that state his home for fifty-two years. He then moved to Ottawa, Ill., living there fifteen years and seven years ago moved to Emmet county, Iowa. He was married to Josephine M. Ruger, June 27th, 1865. To this union three children were born, two of whom are living, namely: Mrs. Susie Hammond of Plattsburg, N.Y., and Frank M. Thorn of this place.
Deceased has made many friends since coming to Emmet county and is very highly spoken of by all his neighbors. Two years ago Mr. Thorn professed religion and joined the Free Baptist church and has lived in the faith ever since, being a changed man from the time of his conversion. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the house conducted by Rev. Droz. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery. The remains of A.P. Thorne were exhumed from Oak Hill cemetery last week and shipped to Plattsburg, Wis., [NY] for re-burial. Frank Thorne accompanied them. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, June 21, 1911)
