Gus Poulos
Estherville – Graveside services for Gus Christ Poulos, 83, Estherville, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Holy Family Hospital Saturday [August 7, 1982] evening. Rev. Dan Swanson of the Union Baptist Church will officiate.Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Monday.
Poulos was born March 15, 1899 at Melissa, Greece, the son of Christos and Zaharlo Christopoulos. He received his education it the Greece schools and came to the United States at the age of 16. On August 27, 1931 he was united in marriage to Leona Madden at Fort Dodge. He was employed at a shoe and hat shop in Fort Dodge with his cousin before coming to Estherville in 1937 where he opened his own hat blocking shop which he operated until his retirement in 1964. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Leona, Estherville; three sons, Doyle Wessling, Mineapolis, John Poulos, Estherville, James Poulos, Superior, Nebr.; one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Kay) Fowlie, Estherville; nine grandchildren; one greatgrandchild and one brother, William Christopoulos living in Greece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 9, 1982)
