Eliza Welsh, 59, Former Deputy Treasurer, Dies
Funeral Services to Be Held Tuesday
Eliza Welsh, 59, died at noon yesterday at the Welsh brothers farm near Ringsted after a lingering illness. Death was attributed to cancer.

Miss Welsh had served as deputy treasurer of Emmet county for nearly 20 years and had resigned effective Sept. 1 to rest and possibly travel to Europe. Soon after her resignation she became seriously ill and had been hospitalized at New Ulm, Minn., much of the time since then.

She first began work in the court house as deputy treasurer in 1925 when Enoch Hanson was treasurer. She held that position for 10 years, then quit for two years, resuming her work again in March of 1937 when she returned and became a deputy in the audit department for K.J. Ereland. She served continuously in that capacity until Sept. 1.

Miss Welsh was a member of the Eastern Star, White Shrine and Presbyterian church.

She was born in Jack Creek township and received her education in Armstrong, later attending college at Austin, Minn. She taught school for several years before accepting the position in the court house.

Survivors include two brothers, John and James of Ringsted, and four sisters, Mrs. Chris Ellerston, Helen and Annie of Ringsted and Mrs. Daniel Skow of Lamberton, Minn.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 in the Mahlum and Sandin chapel and at 2 o’clock at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Frielie E. Conaway officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Pall bearers will be William Johnston, Max Soeth, Irving Ellerston, Robert Knight, Dan Howard and C.P. Jackson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 23, 1946)
