Miss Helen Welsh Dies; Rites Monday
Miss Helen Welsh, 74, longtime resident of Jack Creek Township, died yesterday at 7:30 p.m. in Holy Family Hospital. In failing health for some years due to a heart ailment, Miss Welsh was hospitalized 10 days ago with lumbar pneumonia.

Born Aug. 3, 1882, on a farm near Emmetsburg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Welsh, Miss Welsh received her education in the Armstrong Public schools. She taught school for many years at Maple Hill and Buckeye, retiring from teaching in 1942.

After her parents’ death in the early 1940s, Miss Welsh and her brother, James and sister, Annie, continued to live on the home farm in Jack Creek Township.

Miss Welsh was a member of the Armstrong Presbyterian church, and of the Order of Eastern Star at Armstrong. For many years she had been Jack Creek correspondent for the Daily News, and was an interested participant in community affairs as long as her health permitted.

In addition to her brother, James and sister, Annie, Miss Welsh is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Isabel Skow of Lamberton, Minn., and Mrs. Chris (Jane) Ellerstron of Ringsted.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Eliza, and a brother, John.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home, the Rev. Thomas G. Melton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Pall bearers will be V.H. Sidles, Charles Jackson, Kenneth Olson, Clarence Schroeder, Ray Fry and Ed Sorum.

Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home tomorrow and until time of services on Monday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 6, 1956)
