Services for Merle Francis Culbertson, 75, Ringsted, were held Monday, 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Ringsted with interment in Swan Lake Township Cemetery, rural Estherville. Rev. Fred Boyce officiated. Culbertson died Friday, Feb 4, 1983 at the Hilltop Nursing Home, Spirit Lake. Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Ringsted was in charge of arrangements.

Culbertson was born June 5, 1907 at Emmetsburg, the son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Rouse) Culbertson; he attended rural Emmet County Schools. On Feb. 12, 1930 he was united in marriage to Edna Meyer at Fenton. He lived most of his life in the Ringsted area where he farmed until 1950 when the couple moved into Ringsted. He was then employed by Emmet County as a maintainance operator until his retirement in 1969. Culbertson was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife Edna, Ringsted; six sons and six daughters; Mrs. Bill (Shirley) Nelson, Spirit Lake, Francis Culbertson, Titonka, Lyle Culbertson, Larue Bradshaw, one sister, Mrs. George (Lulu) Loewenberg, Fairmont, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 12 brothers and Arnolds Park, Gordon Culbertson, Ringsted, Mrs. Chet (Sylvia) Tabor, Dallas, Tex., Mrs. Don (Kathleen) Quastad, Gary Culbertson, Estherville, Mrs. Darrel (Sandra) Walsh, Colorado Springs, Color., Emery Culbertson, Emmetsburg, Daniel Culbertson, Jacksonville, Ark., Mrs. Bob (Connie) Monk, Roanoke, Ill.; 33 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother Joe Culbertson, Lone Rock and sister, three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
