Mrs. McDonald, 75,Dies at Home in Cedar Rapids
Mrs. J.D. [L.] McDonald, 75, died Tuesday [March 29, 1938] night at her home in Cedar Rapids. The body was brought back to Estherville this morning and burial will be here.Mrs. McDonald first came to the Estherville community in 1901 and lived here until 1932 when she moved to Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, J.B. McDonald, who died in 1931 at Estherville.
She is survived by one son, Glen, and one daughter, Mrs. O.B. McGuire, both of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. J.B. McDonald of Estherville.
Mrs. McDonald spent her girlhood at Delavan, Wis., and married J.D. McDonald at Elgin, Ill. Her maiden name was Kitty Clyde Briggs.
A short prayer service will be held at the Mahlum and Anderson funeral parlors at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and services will be at the Presbyterian church at 2 with the Rev. Claude Fausnaugh in charge.
Pallbearers will be John Blagg, Harry Cropley, George Robb, Robert Knight, John Darling and I.J. Robinson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 31, 1938)
Aged Lady Passes At C’d’r Rapids
Mrs. J.L. McDonald Died At Home There After Short Illness; Funeral Services Here Friday
Mrs. J.L. McDonald, 75, formerly a resident of Estherville township, died just before midnight Tuesday at her home in Cedar Rapids. She had been ill about a week.The body will be brought to Estherville and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian church in charge of Rev. Claude Fausnaugh. Interment will be made in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family is well known in this community. Mr. McDonald who passed away five years ago shortly after he and his wife retired from the farm and moved to Cedar Rapids, was county supervisor for a number of terms and active in rural affairs.
One son Glenn B. McDonald and a daughter, Mrs. O.B. McGuire both of Cedar Rapids survive. There are six grandchildren. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 31, 1938)
