Otto Knode, Longtime City Resident Dies
Otto W. [G.] Knode, longtime resident of Estherville, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday of a heart attack. Mr. Knode had suffered another heart attack about six years ago.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church, the Rev. William G. Niles of Gruver Presbyterian Church officiating. Friends may call at Sternborg Funeral Home from 3 o’clock this afternoon until 10 a.m. Wednesday at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services.

Born June 8, 1891 at Tama, Mr. Knode attended the schools in that area. He was united in marriage to the former Ella Steel, on May 5, 1912 at Dolliver.

The first six months of their marriage was spent in this area and then they moved to Waterloo where Mr. Knode was employed in the John Deere plant. Upon returning to Estherville several years ago, Mr. Knode was employed at the Municipal Light plant and then by the Rock Island Railroad.

He had been a Rock Island employe for 37 years prior to his retirement due to poor health after suffering the heart attack in 1951.

Survivors in addition to his widow include seven children. They are Harley of Iowa Falls; John of Estherville; Otto Jr. of Santa Anna, Calif.; Leonard of Pomona, Calif.; Mrs. Clara Ade and Mrs. Arlene Klein, both of Rockford, Ill. and Mrs. Lester Riesing of Hazel Green, Wis.

Also surviving are three brothers, Elmer of Waterloo; Leo of Ottumwa and Lee of Des Moines; a sister, Mrs. John Joyce of Omaha, Nebr.; 29 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One daughter, Luella Teveer; his parents and a brother, Leonard, preceded him in death. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 24, 1956)
